Meet Liss

I started lettering in 2014, after working as a graphic designer for years and launching a range of typography prints online. In the process of developing my prints, I stumbled across the world of hand-lettering, falling in love with a deliciously drippy style created with brushes and inks. I spent hours upon hours upon hours sitting at my coffee table (don't ask why, I prefer to sit on the floor than on a chair) practicing letters, going through mountains of paper, and loving every second of it.

Fast forward a little to 2016, I launched my very first online course Freestyle Calligraphy and saw hundreds of people join and learn how to rock their brush pen and brush lettering. So much fun!

These days you'll find me mostly working on an iPad, largely because of the freedom and flexibility of having everything I could want wrapped up in one device. And also just because I hate mess... and as a single mum to six humans, I'm all about keeping it simple, taking the path of least resistance, and doing things that light me up.

I launched Clarity in 2018 to provide a more accessible option to those wanting to learn with me. As someone who comes from a family of artists going back generations, I believe so much in the value of creativity in our lives. Having spaces to explore our creativity, to connect with other artists, and to build a regular creative practice impacts so many other parts of our lives. That's what I want for you as a Clarity member.

I can't wait to see what you create.

Liss x

Why choose Clarity?

:

avoid the obvious mistakes

When I started lettering in 2014 there were nowhere near as many resources available as there are now. I fumbled my way through, made every mistake known to humanity, learnt a heap in the process, but can now help you avoid said disasters!

:

It's all about the lettering

Procreate provide an incredibly comprehensive, free, handbook that explains all the ins and outs of the app. And sure, you can go and read it all, but if your goal is to learn, or level-up your lettering, Clarity is all about the lettering. All of the things you need to know, none of the things you don't.

:

no boring content allowed

Have you ever signed up for an online course and then realised that the presenter just bores you to tears? None of that here. All of the Clarity lessons are recorded in a way that will have you feeling like you're sitting right beside me in my studio. Lettering should be fun!

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to join?
You need an iPad Pro or the most recent (6th Generation, 2018) 9.7" iPad.

Procreate will work on any iPad, and there are workarounds for other devices, but you will get the best results from this program with an Apple Pencil - which is compatible with any generation iPad Pro, and the 6th Generation (2018) 9.7" iPad.

You also need to have Procreate installed on your iPad. You can find Procreate here : procreate.art

Yeah, but I have an older iPad? Can't I use that?
Ok, you probably can, but I want you to know that some of the features in Procreate work best when using an Apple Pencil. I would hate for you to sign up and then feel disappointed about not being able to make it all work. You can use a different stylus, but you'll need to make sure you get one that is pressure sensitive.

Do I need to have been lettering for a while to make the most of Clarity?
Nope! The core content in Clarity takes you right from the beginning, once you've downloaded Procreate, there are videos explaining all the basics.

Do I get access to old content when I join?
Yep! If you join today, you get access to all of content from previous months.

How will I access the content?
Monthly content will be delivered via a members only section on this website, which you will have access to for as long as your membership is active.

Can I download any of it?
Worksheets, brushes and palettes are all downloadable for you to save to your device.

Will the membership price go up?
Your membership price will never increase as long as it remains active.

How do I cancel my membership?
You can cancel your membership at any time with the click of a button in the members area. None of that 'having to email someone and potentially deal with the weirdness of having to explain why you're cancelling' (been there? or just me...). No refunds are given for parts of months, but you won't be charged for any future months.
